A tiny boat in a little teacup
One great way to exercise your creative muscles is to consider changing the scale of things in surprising ways. A boat in a teacup? Instant delight! What sorts of other little things can you make big...or big things can you make smaller? Artists do this all the time!
For this project, the first thing you want to do is download the artwork.

If you'd like to use this photo of my daddy as a little boy, you are more than welcome. You can find it here.
You are going to print two copies of the boat and one of the teacup directly onto patterned paper.
See here...

Cut two strips of paper using scallop shears. (alternatively, you could use rick-rack)

(I used the glittered paper from Doodlebug Designs, which is my new favorite thing!)
Next, cut out the teacup. Also, cut the inside rim out (see picture).

Choose which of the two sailboats you'd like for the sails and cut out as shown...eliminating the boat part. Be sure to cut between sails. I did this by cutting up from the bottom of where the sail meets the pole.
From the other printout, cut out the boat, as shown.
Cut a little slit in your boat and slip your little cut out person in. (Yes, I did cut my father's head a little funny, didn't I?!)
Now you're ready for assembly. This isn't as complicated as all these pictures make it seem...just a lot of layers.

Cut the two strips of scalloped paper to fit in the top of the cup, using the bit you cut out as a guide.
With the inside of the cup on the back, layer on the first scalloped paper, positioning close to the top. .

Your little person goes in the boat, with the sails behind him.
The boat with your little person goes on top of the scallop bit on the inside of the cup.

The next scalloped bit goes over the boat. Next , the teacup goes on top.

I would suggest getting all the layers assembled before gluing into place...
Have fun!
This is adorable!
