To make this applique, I used my Xyron sticker maker to apply an even coat of adhesive to the back. You could use the iron-on adhesives designed for appliques (available at your sewing center...ask for a recommendation)
I cut a rough larger section around the embroidery and ran the whole larger piece through the Xyron. Then I cut the paper-backed embroidery place close along the edge of the embroidery, all the way around the embroidery.
I carefully peeled adhesive back and applied it to my tee shirt. Then I stitched a running stitch along the edge of the applique. There are more elaborate ways to applique the design, including tucking the edges under. But I like the rough primitive look of this way.
This would be a great way to dress up a jean jacket or an apron. And, best of all, you preserve all that work of the embroiderist of years ago.
What a wonderful idea. I have some old embroidery and just may try this. Wondering if it is washable with the Xyron sticky on the back. Anyone know? You are very talented!!!
